The Maiden and the Minstrel Knight
OR
The Cliché Hero

Rather Recently, in a Land not that far away considering modern transportation, there lived a Maiden and a Minstrel Knight.

And some dragons, there were plenty of those.

It was the usual story. Lady Cordelia and Sir Roger, for such were their names, were in love her father was opposed to their union for whatever illogical reason; Lady Cordelia had some unpleasant run-ins with dragons and the like; Sir Roger rescues her and they live happily ever after.

Except for one thing. About halfway through all this, just as our Knight is setting out on his quest to rescue the Maiden, he realized that he's living a clichéd plotline; standard, boring and with a pre-determined ending. As he rode his gallant charger towards the castle where Lady Cordelia was imprisoned, Sir Roger tried to think of a way to forge his own destiny and avoid the cliché. He could, of course, not rescue the Maiden. but he really did like her and couldn't possibly leave her locked in a tower for something as trifling as the avoidance of a cliché. It was also possible that he could end up getting kill'd in the rescue attempt, but that was something he certainly wanted to avoid far more than the cliché. The cliché could also be avoided by Lady Cordelia changing her mind about marrying Sir Roger or Cordelia's father not changing his mind about not letting them wed. And except for those unpleasant circumstances, Roger couldn't think up any way out of the cliché. So he put the idea out of his mind and went on his way rescuing and marrying Lady Cordelia.

And they lived happily ever after until the end of their days.
