The Great Engulfer

As usual, The Couch was hungry. Although a carnivorous hunter by nature, this couch never had to hunt down its prey. It only had to decide what to devour next. After some deliberation, it finally settled on something small but satisfying, a cellphone. The Couch had a strong affinity for electronics. In its better days The Couch had been able to take on large electronics. It had eaten Nintendos, laptop and desktop computers, large 1980's telephones boomboxes. It had even tried to eat a refrigerator once and had almost succeeded. But now The Couch was old and tired and only ate what was readily available, mostly candy wrappers and pens with an occasional CD, book or piece of jewelry as a treat. That a cellphone had strayed so close to The Couch's maw was a rare and welcome occasion. The Couch carefully drew the cellphone in with a sort of creeping magnetism. Slowly and deliberately the cellphone sand into the dark recesses of The Couch. There seemed to be no motion at all but somehow the cellphone crept closer and closer towards The Couch's waiting mouth. There was no was to say if the cellphone was slowly creeping or The Couch was slowly pulling, but by the next morning the phone was forever lost in the abyss of The Couch.

The Couch settled back into itself and began looking for its next meal. With a sudden turn of malice, it decided it wanted to engulf the entire room beginning with the person sitting dangerously close to The Couch's gaping maw.
